Chewelah Community Demographics

Chewelah is one of the jewels of the Northwest:  nestled between mountain ranges 42 miles North of Spokane along a major trade route between Canada and Spokane, it is a vibrant and progressive city.  With a population of 2675, it is a place for all seasons with a moderate four-season climate, averaging 20” of precipitation annually.  Chewelah offers over 100 community activities per year and offers easy access to unlimited outdoor recreation.  (hiking, biking, ATV trails, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, golfing at a premier 27-hole golf course, skiing at 49 Degrees North, soon to be the largest ski hill in Washington).

The population is predominantly Caucasian; average age is 48.  Major employers are school, government and health care.  Major industries are agriculture, tourism and natural resources.  Median income is $46,688, much lower than the State average, but the cost of living is somewhat less expensive.  More community information can be found at the Chewelah Chamber of Commerce website.  The City of Chewelah provides water, sewer, electric and garbage services and owns Chewelah Municipal Airport.
